APRIL

End of season – Juniors

The last Glos league games have now been played and the league positions and summary can be found below:

U12 – 3rd in the league
The under 12s just love to play netball, they are so enthusiastic. Many of them have come through from the High 5s sessions that Emma has run or the play evenings and hopefully will still be with us as senior players in a few years time.

U12 squad list:
Gemma Ford
Lauren Fawke
Chloe Hawling
Grace Cavenagh
Niamh McSwinney
Ellie Davis
Emily Davies
Annabel Sherry
Hannah Sargison
Niamh Coote

The league ended with a tournament, where the 8 u12 teams were split into 2 groups and played each other. We came 2nd in our group which meant we played in the semi final against Cirencester, who were winners of their group. After winning that game it was then the final against Hucclecote. The girls were fantastic and although Hucclecote went ahead, we pulled it back to 4 all at half time. Although all the girls tried really hard we couldn’t hold on and lost 6-9 at the end of full time. All the players learnt such a lot from a lot of court time today. Most of the girls were playing for 1 hour and 40mins each which is a lot for any age group.

U13 – 2nd in league
We have about 20 year 8s that come to training regularly, and we picked the girls listed below to make up our squad of U13s. Most of these girls had never played together before, and we have been very pleased with how they have performed in the league. A good result as you can see from the table. We are looking forward to next season when they will play as our under 14 squad.

U13 Squad list:
Sophie Goodrum
Kayleigh Tompkins
Charlotte
Rachel Harrison
Lucy Thurlow
Anna Waters
Tegan Lockhead
Poppy Compton
Laura Taylor
Rhiannon White
Amy Collinson

U14A– 3rd in league - qualified for the North SW regional tournament (see details below)

U14B – 5th in league

The U14 North South West tournament was played at the Sports Training Village at Bath University on Sunday 9 th March. Although the girls were disappointed at not winning a match, it was good experience for them. Some of these girls will still be U14 next year, while most will move to U16 and perhaps the senior league.

Squad list:
Kat Coleby
Adele Holder
Jenny Lewis
Frankie Mayes
Beth Hawling
Ashleigh Brooks
Kayleigh Tompkins
Sophie Goodrum
Tegan Lockhead
Laura Merrick
Ellie Moss

U16A – 1st in league

U16B – 2nd in league
Although we were disappointed that our U16 A team did not qualify for the North SW regional league, the girls all enjoyed their matches and together with the B squad there was a real team atmosphere with most of the girls playing together in the Glos senior league Division 5 and 7 teams. The girls that will be year 11 next season will be missed when they move on next season to totally senior league matches.

MARCH

Old Chelts combined division 5 and 7 squad went into the final of the Per Ardua competion with a 57 – 2 lead against Rednock, who at the moment, are top of the first division.

All players gave 110% in their fight to stop Rednock making up the goal deficit. As everyone who has played in this competition knows, playing against such a high ranking team is very demoralising, for defenders especially, but Old Chelts fought through to the end which paid off, and they won with a final score of 78 – 65.

Holly and Molly, who at div 5 level, usually have no problems defending the circle but obviously, playing a div 1 side caused them a few problems, however by the 3 rd quarter, they were getting tips and interceptions as usual and with some great backup from Laura and Rachel, they were many a time able to turn these to our advantage and get the ball back to our shooting end.

The shooting of Ailsa at GS and Sam at GA was a great combination and they scored a goal at every opportunity. Sam, Lauren at WA and Rhi at C did some lovely feeds into the circle to make the most of Ailsa’s height, and to score 21 goals was impressive.

Congratulations to the all the girls for providing such an entertaining and skilful game. It was a pleasure to watch.

DECEMBER

News for the New Year

Training will start back on Tuesday 8th January until Tuesday 1st April.

The first league games in the New Year for our juniors are on the 20 th January for the under 13’s and 14’s and February 10 th for the under 12’s. We are pleased with the improvement the girl’s have made since September. The majority have also made an excellent commitment to training and matches.

Most of our under 16s also play for the Gloucestershire senior league, which they are eligible for when they reach year 10. Our division 5 team is almost made up entirely of U16s and have won all their matches in the last few weeks, and our new division 7 team are top of the division, which is a fantastic achievement so well done to them.

We are hopeful that the hoodies will be ready by the last week of training, so I shall look forward to January 8 th to see them all being worn!

SEPTEMBER

5th, 6th and 7th Division Tournament

The squad for this tournament was made up entirely of U16 players many of whom had previously only played junior fixtures for the club. However they soon found some good form, played together extremely well growing in confidence as the tournament progressed.

The team were to finish equal second in their group, only missing out on going through to the finals on goal difference.

Hopefully many of these players will now be playing regularly on Saturdays in the senior leagues.

The squad:
Hatti Powis
Livvy Willson
Carly Hewitt
Ellie Moss
Bonnie Mackenzie
Emma Gabbott
Lauren Kelly
Molly Fielding
Laura Masling
Rachel Campbell
Holly Mortlock

played 8, won 5, drew 1, lost 2.

Well done to Ellie Moss for captaining the team so efficiently on the day.

Old Chelts v 7 Stars – Div 7

This is the newest and youngest of the Old Chelts teams with most of the girls not having played adult netball before, it was a real test for them.

It was a bit of a shaky start with the girls getting used to playing together and playing an unknown team, but by half way through the 2 nd quarter they were playing together very nicely. The defending skills of Rachel Campbell, Carly Hewitt and Laura Masling, really kept us in the game and at half time we were only 2 goals down. By the 3 rd quarter, the attack made up of Livvy Willson, Megan Stevens and Kristie Rhodes with Emma Gabbott in the centre, also began to gain confidence and in the last quarter swapping Carly to her usual position of shooter and moving Megan who is an attacking player to defence, didn’t alter the strength of the team at all.

The final score was 27-23 to Chelts and Carly Hewitt deservedly got player of the match.
